FCC “Diversity Committee” To Meet May 7

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

That’s the date announced by acting FCC Chairman Michael Copps for a meeting of the new members of the Commission’s Advisory Committee On Diversity For Communications In The Digital Age. Representatives on the committee include broadcasters, telecomm executives, and representatives of various associations and public interest groups. Copps, who’s made no secret that increasing diversity in media ownership will be a priority of the FCC in the months ahead, said the committee is charged with providing an “independent voice” to make recommendations to the Commission with regard to policies and practices that will further enhance the ability of minorities and women to participate in telecommunications and related industries. Copps reportedly wants to get the ball rolling on the diversity issue prior to the arrival of Julius Genachowski, President Obama’s nominee for FCC Chairman. You can view a complete list of the committee members at www.fcc.gov.

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

Former Citadel Broadcasting VP of News/Talk/Sports and longtime Talk radio programming veteran Brian Jennings has spent the past several months writing Censorship: The Threat To Silence Talk Radio. This week, we present an exclusive interview with Jennings on the eve of the release of his new book that’s been endorsed by no less than Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Alan Colmes, and other high profile Talk radio personalities. “This should not be a fight of conservatives against liberals, or liberals against conservatives,” says Jennings. “It should be a fight by conservatives and liberals joined together in a fight against government regulation of free speech rights.” Read more in our exclusive one-on-one with Jennings, only in the April 24 edition of NTS MediaOnline Weekly, arriving in your inbox tomorrow morning.
