So, Got Any GOOD Ideas?

Friday, June 5th, 2009

Joint Communications CEO and long time media maven John Parikhal reacted to our story yesterday in which Westwood One host Jim Bohannon warned broadcasters to get ready for government-mandated “NAGS” — Neighborhood Adversarial Groups — as part of future license renewals. Parikhal thinks instead of fearing, or criticizing the FCC’s proposed community action groups, broadcasters should come up with their own better plan. “How can radio serve the local community better?” he asks. “How can it help?” Parikhal suggested putting that charge to NTS MediaOnline Today readers and soliciting your “practical suggestions.” Great idea! AP Mobile Updates Apple App

Friday, June 5th, 2009

The Associated Press has made “a significant update” to its AP Mobile application for iPhone and iPod touch users. AP’s version 2.0 gives users the power to customize their own “front page” to define news they want to see first when opening the app. The software also allows users to set the number of stories to be displayed for a number of news categories, from breaking news, to local and regional coverage. AP reports during the month of April iPhone users visited AP Mobile “five times more often than other smartphone users.” That stat, says Jeff Litvack, General Manager/Mobile and Emerging Products, confirms that the company’s decision to develop the new app for Apple’s mobile devices has, “paid off in spades.”

And They Say, “The News Never Sleeps”

WTOP/Washington’s recently held “Sleep-In-For-The Cure” gave frazzled DC early morning commuters a pass to allow them to sleep in during last weekend’s big Susan G. Winners of the Bonneville all-newsers best-PJ’s-worn-to-the-office contest are (l-r); morning anchor Bruce Alan, investigative reporter Mark Seagraves, and WTOP’s Man About Town, Bob Madigan.
