Neil Rogers Exits WQAM/Miami
Monday, June 22nd, 2009
Legendary South Florida Talk radio host Neil Rogers is giving up his daily show on Beasley Broadcasting-owned WQAM/Miami. Rogers’ agent and attorney, Norman Kent, says the talk host has no plans to seek other on-air work in the market “at this time” and reports that Rogers told him, “not to seek any such employment, although under our agreement with WQAM that is not prohibited.” Rogers first joined WQAM in 1997 and hosted the only general talk show on the otherwise all-sports outlet.
Rogers has consistently topped radio ratings for his daypart since his debut on South Florida radio more than 30 years ago. Among the other Miami-area call letters on Rogers’ resume: WJNO, WKAT, WNWS, WINZ, WZTA, and WIOD. The always controversial talker was recently suspended by WQAM for uttering an inadvertent “f-bomb” on the air while reading from a listener email. Although he maintains a home in Florida, Rogers has broadcast mostly from studios in his Toronto, Canada apartment. As part of the new deal announced today Rogers will no longer be on the air but he will be retained as a consultant to the station. “Neil Rogers was a ratings leader in Miami for years and we’re happy that we could reach a new accord that works well for both parties,” said Beasley/Miami VP/Market Manager Joe Bell.
