Rush Limbaugh Hospitalized In Hawaii
Wednesday, December 30th, 2009
(Posted at 11pm ET) Sources report that Premiere Radio Networks Talk radio host Rush Limbaugh has been hospitalized in Hawaii after suffering chest pains late Wednesday afternoon. Numerous print and TV reports from Oahu say paramedics responded to a call just after 2:40pm (Hawaiian Time) at the Kahala Hotel in Honolulu where Limbaugh is reportedly currently a guest. No official word yet from Limbaugh’s network on the reports, several of which characterized the talk host’s condition as “serious.” Sources tell Honolulu television station KITV that Limbaugh was admitted to Queen’s Medical Center and is not expected to be released tonight. We’ll update this story with new details as soon as they become available.
LATEST UPDATE: An official statement posted on Limbaugh’s website just after 1am (ET) on 12/31 reads: “Rush was admitted to a Honolulu hospital today and is resting comfortably after suffering chest pains. Rush appreciates your prayers and well wishes. He will keep you updated via RushLimbaugh.com and on Thursday’s radio program.” Word is Limbaugh is expected to make a full recovery, but a return to his radio show on Monday (1/4) following his holiday vacation break is likely in doubt.
Asked by South Florida Sun-Sentinel reporter Tom Jicha if he has plans to return to the radio airwaves anytime soon, veteran Talk radio host Neil Rogers replied, “Forget it. It isn’t going to happen.” Rogers says he is really enjoying retirement since exiting WQAM/Miami earlier this year. His departure deal with the station reportedly includes the payment of most, if not all, of his estimated $800,000 a year salary from Beasley Broadcasting for the next four years. Asked if he missed the biz he spent more than three decades in Rogers told Jicha, “I don’t even listen to radio anymore, not at all. It’s like I was never in it.” Read the newspaper’s full update on Rogers

The one-time DJ and music director for then-Top 40 powerhouse WFIL (”Famous 56″)/Philadelphia has died at the age of 70 following a battle with cancer. After his run at WFIL, “King” George Michael (pictured) went on to a six-year stint at WABC/New York, where he also dabbled in Sports play-by-play and fill-ins for legendary ABC Sports announcer Howard Cosell. In 1980 he moved to WRC-TV/Washington where he took over as the station’s regular sportscaster and also launched George Michael’s Sports Machine, a syndicated TV sports show that aired through 2007. Details on a memorial service for one of the greats of broadcasting are pending.
New York Times reporter Brian Stelter says FOX Business Network VP/Business News Alexis Glick (pictured) will exit the network effective today (12/23). Glick, who has most recently hosted FBN’s daily 9am Opening Bell program, told the newspaper she is leaving to pursue an undisclosed new opportunity. She previously hosted the daily Money For Breakfast show, but was recently bumped from that timeslot in favor of a simulcast of Citadel Media’s syndicated Imus In The Morning Show … As usual, Premiere Radio Networks Coast-To-Coast AM host George Noory will be live on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, with special holiday-themed programming from 1-5am (ET) … KWTX/Waco, TX host Garret Lewis is named as the new morning personality at Clear Channel News/Talker KNST/Tucson. He’ll takeover the station’s 6-9am slot beginning February 1st.
As rumored for the past few weeks, former WABC/New York host and Citadel Media syndicated personality Curtis Sliwa will debut in mornings on crosstown Salem Communications News/Talker WNYM (”The Apple”) on January 11th. It’s a return to wake-ups in Gotham City for Sliwa who spent many years in that timeslot as anchor of the long running Curtis & Kuby Show on WABC. “Curtis Sliwa is New York Radio,” said WNYM GM Sean O’Neill. “Returning Curtis to mornings will make it worth listening to radio during the morning drive commute again.” On getting to continue his now nearly two-decade career on NYC radio after the holiday break Sliwa adds, “It’s been my goal to return to morning drive radio in New York City. AM 970/The Apple has provided me the opportunity to once again be live and local in New York.” WNYM’s weekday lineup now includes Sliwa (5-9am) Salem Radio Network hosts Mike Gallagher, Michael Medved and Hugh Hewitt, Westwood One’s Dennis Miller and FOX News Radio’s John Gibson.
Curtis Media Group has upped two senior managers to VP at the Raleigh-based broadcasting company. WPTF/Raleigh GM David Stuckey (left) is awarded brand new stripes for the New Year, as is current group National Sales Manager Cameron Poston (right). Both will retain their current roles under their new titles which a company release says were awarded as “acknowledgement of their leadership in the company.” However, CMG President/COO Phil Zachary says the promotions are more than just new titles. “We’re not a company defined by status,” he said. “But certain of our managers have proven themselves to be ‘best of breed’ by every definition, in both robust and challenging times. I’m proud to have David and Cameron as colleagues on a senior leadership team that’s as good as any in our industry.”
