Rush: Contestants Should Be “Role Models”

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

Recounting his past week in Las Vegas, where he was a judge at this year’s Miss America PageantPremiere Radio Networks talker Rush Limbaugh said he believes the contestants whom he encountered should be embraced as “role models” by other young women in America. “One of the problems is that, for the most part, these are very wholesome women, and unfortunately wholesome in our society today equals boring, not interesting, fuddy-duddy and old-fashioned,” said the talk host. “Frankly, if I had a daughter I would much prefer that she admire and look up to one of these women than some of the choices they have out there in pop culture.” That said, we think it’s a pretty safe bet that nobody will consider looking up to ‘El Rushbo’ as a role model for dancing after watching him bust a move HERE.

CBS Nixes “Go To Hell” Superbowl Ad

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

The network, which reported earlier today that it has sold out all commercial avails for Sunday’s big game, has already ruffled some feathers by rejecting an ad for gay dating website Mancrunch.com and accepting one from Colorado-based ministry Focus On The Family. Now, CBS has told video gamer Electronic Arts that the company’s proposed Super Bowl ad for the M-rated game Dante’s Inferno cannot run with it’s signature marketing tagline, “Go To Hell.” However, a re-edited version of the spot will air, with the objected-to-tagline changed to read, “Hell Awaits.” Yeah, that’s better.

Meanwhile, Focus On The Family President/CEO Jim Daly told NTS MediaOnline Today he has been a bit surprised over the reaction to FOTF’s upcoming Super Bowl ad, especially since no one has actually seen it yet. “There’s nothing controversial in the spot,” said Daly, who’s been all over the media this week. “It’s basically Pam Tebow saying how much she loves her son, and Tim Tebow saying, ‘Thanks, Mom.’ I think most people are going to say the ad is very warm and friendly.” Daly has more to say on the issue, and also discusses the future of Citadel Media’s syndicated Focus On The Family Commentary, in this Friday’s (2/5) edition NTS MediaOnline Weekly. Who Has The World’s Worst Radio Website?

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

That’s what media guru Mark Ramsey wants to know. In fact, the longtime San Diego-based researcher has coined The Ed Wood Award to ‘honor’ the winner of his search for the worst radio station website out there (Wood, you may recall, was the legendary director of some perfectly awful 1950s Hollywood films like Bride of the Monster and Jail Bait). So just how bad a site is Ramsey seeking? “I mean something so mind-numbingly bad that it threatens to tear at the very fabric of space/time,” he jokes in a post to his Hear2.0 blog. He carefully notes that the exercise is “not intended as a deep-dive into a bubble bath of negativity” and adds, “But, sometimes the best way to go right is to see what it means to go terribly wrong.” You can nominate your candidates for best-of-the-worst HERE.

Sports Radio Networks Camp Out In Miami

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

While Westwood One has the exclusive play-by-play radio rights to Super Bowl XLIV, both ESPN Radio and FOX Sports Radio, as usual, have heavy presences in Miami this week to cover all the events leading up to Sunday’s big game between the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts. FSR’s Stephen A. Smith, Myers and Hartman, Petros and Money and JT “The Brick” are all broadcasting live from Miami this week, as are FSR-syndicated DirectTV Sports personalities Dan Patrick and Tony Bruno. Meanwhile, ESPN Radio’s Mike & Mike In The Morning have taken up temporary residence at 12th Street and Ocean Drive in South Beach, along with network stablemates Colin Cowherd and Scott Van Pelt. Both networks are also streaming live coverage of this week’s Super Bowl events online at their respective websites.
