Lee Looms Over Gulf Coast’s Labor Day Plans
September 2, 2011

Even as flooding caused by Hurricane Irene begins to recede up and down the east coast, residents of southern Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama are battening down the hatches for this weekend’s arrival of Tropical Storm Lee. Residents of New Orleans face a potential test of the city’s levee system once again, as forecasters predict the region could experience rainfall of some 15-20 inches over a period of just 48 hours. Entercom News/Talker WWL-AM & FM’s Hurricane Central is keeping residents up to date on-air and online, warning Big Easy residents to expect “a ton” of rain. Meanwhile, crosstown Clear Channel FM News/Talk WRNO (Rush Radio 99.5) has also activated its Stormwatch center to help residents prepare for Lee’s imminent arrival and potential flooding of 2-4 feet. After coming ashore, Lee will spread heavy rains elsewhere across the southeast next week, causing additional damage throughout the region and launching News/Talkers there into emergency coverage mode. In short, it sure doesn’t look like there’s much chance for a relaxing last-weekend-of-summer holiday weekend for a lot of folks along the Gulf Coast.
