Stern: “I Don’t Think I’m Going To Re-Sign”

And so the game begins as Howard Stern opens negotiations on his next deal with Sirius XM Radio. Recently, Sirius XM CEO Mel Karmazin indicated the company’s desire to have Stern re-up, but also noted the satcaster would want to pay him less than the reported $500 million deal Stern struck with Sirius back in 2004. For his part, Stern told Wall Street Journal reporter Sarah McBride today that, although his satellite gig has been “the best job in radio I’ve ever had” he added, “I don’t think I’m going to be re-signing.” Sounds like the beginning of the kind of high-profile, public negotiations loved by the self-proclaimed “King of All Media” who bolted from broadcast radio to satellite five years ago in the wake of his desire to escape the confining rules of the FCC.
