What Great Local Radio Can And Should Be!

As folks in Iowa woke up Wednesday morning to a crippling blizzard all across the Hawkeye State, WHO/Des Moines morning hosts Van Harden and Bonnie Lucas were in their usual seats at the Clear Channel News/Talker, helping listeners deal with the storm. A man who was transferring an organ from Chicago to a Des Moines hospital called in to report he’d been stuck in his vehicle for hours on I-80, about 40 miles west of the city, and it didn’t look like he was going to get his important delivery to Des Moines in time for scheduled transplant surgery. Harden immediately put the caller on the air to explain the dilemma and urgency of his mission, and also put out the call to ask Iowa State authorities or the National Guard to rescue the man and his precious cargo. Authorities did just that, and the organ delivery was made to the local hospital just in time. You can hear “on demand” audio of this entire episode of great local radio on the WHO website HERE.
