In a statement released to staffers today AAR chief Charlie Kireker said, “It is with the greatest regret, on behalf of our Board, that we must announce that Air America Media is ceasing its live programming operations as of this afternoon, and that the Company will file soon under Chapter 7 of the Bankruptcy Code to carry out an orderly winding-down of the business.” Airing on a reported 100+ affiliates nationwide, AAR will provide a window of transition for those stations, featuring “best of” programming through 9pm (ET) on January 25th. Since it’s launch in 2004 AAR has experienced ongoing financial turmoil, as well as a number of changes in executive management. Kireker said full timers with more than six months of service will be offered a severance package. You can read Kireker’s complete statement posted on the company’s website HERE.
