FCC “Diversity Committee” To Meet May 7
That’s the date announced by acting FCC Chairman Michael Copps for a meeting of the new members of the Commission’s Advisory Committee On Diversity For Communications In The Digital Age. Representatives on the committee include broadcasters, telecomm executives, and representatives of various associations and public interest groups. Copps, who’s made no secret that increasing diversity in media ownership will be a priority of the FCC in the months ahead, said the committee is charged with providing an “independent voice” to make recommendations to the Commission with regard to policies and practices that will further enhance the ability of minorities and women to participate in telecommunications and related industries. Copps reportedly wants to get the ball rolling on the diversity issue prior to the arrival of Julius Genachowski, President Obama’s nominee for FCC Chairman.
