In the wake of yesterday’s surprise announcement that the Dr. Laura Program will move from KFI/Los Angeles to crosstown KFWB next month, KFI Program Director Robin Bertolucci has turned to the station’s top-rated morning and afternoon drive personalities to fill the soon-to-be open noon-3pm (PT) timeslot. Morning man Bill Handel will host a new, noon-2pm program on the station, in addition to his daily wake-up duties. Handel’s new show will be news and story-driven and also feature Handel’s “uncensored opinions and trademark marginal legal advice.” The new midday program will be syndicated nationally by Premiere Radio Networks which also distributes Handel’s long running weekend program Handel On The Law. Meanwhile afternoon talk duo John & Ken, currently airing from 3-7pm, will begin their show one hour earlier each weekday to get a jump on SoCal’s infamous drive home. Wishing the departing Dr. Laura nothing but “the very best” on her move to KFWB, Bertolucci says the station will take advantage of the pending change to move KFI’s midday programming to a more news-based format that better reflects the station’s other dayparts and also take maximum advantage of the Clear Channel News/Talker’s highly rated and popular morning and afternoon drive personalities.
