Uh Oh, Here We Go Again: Barely a week after Fay soaked the Sunshine State for days, stations all along the Gulf coast are now prepping for the arrival of Gustav, a storm that has already caused deadly flooding and landslides across the Caribbean. Officials believe the storm will become a Category 3 hurricane with current tracking showing it landing anywhere from the Florida panhandle to the Louisiana-Texas border. WWL/New Orleans is reporting that evacuations in Southern Louisiana could begin as early as Friday, depending on the storm's track in the next 24 hours. WNTM/Mobile has launched "Operation Stormwatch" to provide ongoing on-air and online updates and emergency preparation info for residents along the Alabama Gulf coast who will likely be impacted by the storm. Once again local News/Talk radio is on the front lines for listeners in those areas potentially threatened by the growing storm threatening life and property along the country's southern coast.

Convention Potpourri: In case you didn't notice, the Democrats are having a convention in Denver this week and just about everyone in the Talk radio biz seems to be there. Dial-Global syndicated yakkers Ed Schultz, Stephanie Miller, Bill Press and Neal Boortz are providing daily video coverage for their affiliate's web sites and the network is also posting the hosts' videoblogs on YouTube. Talk Radio Network's Watchdog On Wall Street, Chris Markowski, is busy watching 14th Street in downtown Denver this week and providing pictures, observations and audio from the Colorado Convention Center HERE. Meanwhile, KABC/Los Angeles host Doug McIntyre also made the pilgrimage to the Mile High City this week where he's broadcasting his daily morning show live from the convention floor. And not to be outdone by the "big guys," WNRP/Pensecola afternooner Marty Stanovich is broadcasting his local show live from "Radio Row" in Denver this week with station owner Dave Hoxeng noting that with a commitment from the staff at all levels, "even small stations can do big things."
