» CC Gets Perfect Human Rights Score: It's the third year in a row that Clear Channel Communications has scored a perfect 100% on the Human Rights Campaign 2009 Corporate Equality Index for the broadcaster's policies for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) employees and business partners. The annual index measures how equitably companies treat GLBT employees, consumers and investors. "Clear Channel remains committed to creating excellent and positive working environments for each of our employees," said Lisa Dollinger, Chief Communications Officer for the San Antonio based media company. "Our culture of diversity and commitment to inclusion is what makes this honor possible for the third consecutive year."

» Envision Debuts SmartSite: In conjunction with ComStar Network, Envision will launch a new community-based web portal designed specifically to help stations generate new revenue from their online initiatives. The standalone web community compliments a station's existing web site and provides community services including classified ads, community events and other services that are submitted automatically by site visitors using customized forms. "The website automatically delivers content that your listener's want and need on a daily basis and there is no need for a webmaster," said Envision CEO Danno Wolkoff about the new product. "Radio stations’ sales departments can sell and maintain the SmartSite local advertising and classifieds on their own with no additional personnel." Envision will debut the new service next week at the NAB Radio Show in Austin.

» Hanna Wet, But Not Wild: Last Friday we told you we'd follow-up with stations in the path of what appeared, at the time, to be a significant hurricane that would hit the east coast over the weekend. While some areas got a whole lot more than just a little rainfall, thankfully Hanna turned out to be a somewhat lesser storm than originally predicted and few stations were thrown into wall-to-wall emergency weather coverage. Next up on the radar, forecasters are keeping a close eye on hurricane Ike as that storm moves across Cuba today and heads back out into the Gulf of Mexico where it threatens an area stretching from the Florida Keys to the Louisiana-Texas coastline in the days ahead. That means broadcasters all across the U.S. Gulf Coast will once again be preparing this week for the arrival of what could be yet another devastating storm in the region which is still drying out in the aftermath of Gustav's wrath last week.

» Vicksburg Gets New ESPN Radio Outlet: Nashville-based Debut Broadcasting adds its third radio station in the Mississippi Delta region with the launch of WQBC (ESPN 1420)/Vicksburg, MS. The station joins Debut's two FM music outlets in the market, WBBC and KLSM. "Since our company expanded into Vicksburg as the next step in construction of our super-regional cluster in Mississippi, the need for a Sports station has been obvious," said company CEO Steven Ludwig. "ESPN Radio 1420 is a perfect fit to provide our audience with all the most up to date information from the sports world."

» Rapp, Floyd Join American Media Services Interactive: The company has named Melissa Rapp VP/Sales and Eric Floyd as West Coast Sales Director for the digital media firm. AMSi provides online media solutions for traditional media companies, strategies for audio/video streaming, customized branded music channels, HD radio formats, content management systems, custom application development and other digital media services. Rapp joins AMSi from MediaSpan Online Services, while Floyd most recently developed marketing campaigns for a number of major national entertainment, automotive and consumer goods clients. Both will report directly to AMSi President Charles "Andy" Whatley.

» MSNBC Boots Olbermann And Matthews: The cable news channel has announced it will remove Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews as anchors of live political events in the wake of growing criticism of both commentators during the network's coverage of last week's Republican convention in Minneapolis and last month's Democratic confab in Denver. NBC News White House correspondent David Gregory will anchor the presidential race's remaining events such as the debates to be held between John McCain and Barack Obama and their respective VP hopefuls Sarah Palin and Joe Biden. NBC News journalists, including veteran newsman and interim Meet The Press anchor Tom Brokaw have increasingly expressed concern over MSNBC's tilt to the left and its abandonment of any pretense of neutrality about the presidential race in recent months.
