Talk Radio Drives Wall Street Bailout Discussion: Even as the U.S. Senate passed legislation last night (10/1) to help stem the money and credit crisis gripping Wall Street, many of Talk radio's biggest hosts continue to sound the alarm today against what many have characterized a "socialist bill" that's likely to make things worse, not better. On CNN yesterday, Republican contributor John Feehery suggested that President Bush should enlist Talk radio if he wants support for a bailout plan that's not popular with a large percentage of American voters. "I would say that, you know, you need to make a phone call to Rush Limbaugh," said Feehery on CNN's Situation Room. "In the inside game the President can win all he wants, but if he doesn't win the outside game -- and that's Talk radio, people kind of saying it's a Wall Street bailout -- it's very difficult for the President in the inside game to overcome those objections." On his show today Limbaugh called the legislation passed last night "the Senate pork barrel bailout bill," and told opponents of it in the U.S. House to, "stand tough, we've got your back."

Ramsey Offers Another Option: Independently syndicated talker Dave Ramsey is one host who has appeared all over the radio and TV media this week to explain the mess America is in, even going so far as to post his own "Common Sense Fix" as an alternative to the bailout proposal offered by Congress. Among Ramsey's ideas: Remove the capital gains tax completely and rewrite any mortgage that is more than three months delinquent to a 6% fixed-rate mortgage. "This is not a time for envy, and it's not a time for politics," says Ramsey. "It's time for all of us as Americans to
stand up, speak out and fix this mess." Dave Ramsey Show EVP Bill Hampton reports Ramsey's alternative plan has already been viewed online over 315,000 times this week and says the PDF has been downloaded over 100,000 times. See it for yourself HERE.

Radio Reporter Canned For Wearing Obama Shirt: The Detroit News reports that WWJ/Detroit reporter Karen Dinkins has been fired from the CBS Radio all-newser after wearing a pro-Barack Obama T-shirt to a rally for the Democratic presidential hopeful that she was covering for the station last Sunday (9/28). In a statement to the newspaper WWJ Director of Programming Georgeann Herbert said the station, "believes our credibility with our listeners rests on the independence of our newsroom staff. WWJ does not favor any candidate, party, or issue. While we encourage employees to exercise their rights as citizens, we expect them to be on guard against any actual, or perceived conflict of interest when covering news stories."
