OK, So There's More Important News But...": We just couldn't resist leading today's edition with this timely shot of ESPN Radio's Mike & Mike In The Morning appropriately decked out for the day. What else can we possibly add except, "Happy Halloween!"

» Chernoff Climbs A Few More Rungs: Longtime CBS Radio programming veteran Mark Chernoff has been promoted from his current role of VP/Sports Programming and WFAN/New York OM, to VP/Programming for the company's New York City cluster. Along with continuing to oversee Sports/Talker WFAN, Chernoff will add oversight duties for all-newsers WINS and WCBS-AM, as well as FM music outlets WCBS, WXRK and WWFS. He'll report directly to Big Apple SVP/Market Manager Don Bouloukos who praised the opportunity to, "have a leader of Mark's caliber extend his expert capabilities, his understanding of tri-state area listeners and his knowledge of the industry to the diverse programming efforts and popular talent at our top rated stations."

» Don't Be Hatin': We noted in yesterday's NTS Aircheck Today that veteran talk host Bruce DuMont will preside over next Saturday night's (11/8) Radio Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Chicago, an event that anyone who has ever attended will tell you is a warm and gala industry evening. But DuMont says this year's vote to induct Focus On The Family founder and longtime broadcaster Dr. James Dobson has made him the target of a barrage of "hate mail" from those angry about the election of Dobson by voters. "I will never forget your name and that of your institution and will always equate it with the hatred of James Dobson," wrote a Chicago resident in an email DuMont shared with NTS Aircheck Today. "When the name of the Museum of Broadcast Communication is spoken, I will remind those speaking it who you have honored, and by association the hatemongering you so publicly condone, by the addition of James Dobson to your Hall of Fame." Dobson first launched his radio broadcasts in 1977 and today is heard on a reported 5,000+stations worldwide, in 155 countries, reaching an estimated 220 million listeners worldwide.

» The Man Who's Always Right: That's the title of a lengthy feature on Premiere Radio Networks syndicated host Rush Limbaugh in London's Telegraph today. Along with a detailed "insider's" look at El Rushbo's "Southern Command" broadcast bunker and Rush's Palm Beach, FL mansion, reporter Nigel Farndale also snagged a rare interview with the talk host. Among the candid revelations Limbaugh says his well-reported addiction to prescription painkillers is all in the past. "I can't imagine taking a pain pill now," he says. "It holds no attraction." In an unusually frank response to a question about the ups and downs of his personal relationships Limbaugh said, "I would find myself very difficult to live with because I am totally self-contained and resent having to do things I don't want to do. Now I can choose. When I'm put in a position where I don't want to be there, I make sure everyone else is miserable." Read the full article HERE.

» Candidates' Final Weekend: Look for Republican John McCain to make the pilgrimage to the stage of NBC-TV's Saturday Night Live tomorrow night (11/1) where he's likely to run into Sarah "Tina Fey" Palin and trade barbs with actor/host and vocal Obama supporter Ben Affleck. Then on Election Eve (11/4) both McCain and Democrat Barack Obama will appear on ESPN's Monday Night Football with Chris Berman who we speculate will be unable to resist proclaiming just which candidate could...go...all...the...way! "Check your local listings," as they say, for both programs.
