Find The "Good News" Stories: That's the advice of Bonneville and WTOP/Washington VP/News Jim Farley for News/Talkers in the post-election news cycle. "With a full-blown stock market crash and an overall economy that is so sick that nobody really knows how bad it may or may not be, and the evaporation of trillions of dollars in wealth, it's enough to make people want to blow their brains out -- or at the very least turn off a station that's pounding them with nothing but bad news," says Farley. "We can't not report the news, our job is to help people understand and cope. But we must find the good news stories, too, like the drop in gas prices that are like a multi-billion dollar tax cut for average Americans, or the bargains galore awaiting shoppers in stores. You can't always find a silver lining in every bad news story and you can't always find a good story to balance a bad story. But it's a good idea for all of us to do it as often as we can."

A Dark Day In November: Tomorrow, November 22, marks 45 years since President John F. Kennedy was shot and killed while riding in a motorcade through Dallas. It was just after 12:30pm (CT) when KLIF/Dallas newsman Gary DeLaune broke in to the station's regular programming with this bulletin: "From Dallas, three shots reportedly were fired at the motorcade of President Kennedy today near the downtown section. KLIF news is checking out the report - we will have further reports - stay tuned." Across town, KLIF owner Gordon McLendon was awaiting Kennedy's arrival at the Dallas Trade Mart, where the President was to make a speech, when someone with a transistor radio tuned to KLIF jumped up and shouted to the room, "The President's been shot!" McClendon immediately hitched a ride with a police officer back to the KLIF studios where he and Joe Long co-anchored the unfolding crisis and together made a dramatic announcement heard around the world: "The President is dead. This is official word. The President, ladies and gentlemen, is dead." Hear the audio of McClendon and Long's historic announcement HERE.

Gehron, Cantillo Exit Harpo: It looks like tough economic times are causing even Oprah to cut back as her Chicago-based Harpo Radio eliminates the positions of GM John Gehron and PD Laurie Cantillo. XM's Oprah & Friends channel will now be overseen by Harpo EVP -- and former XM EVP -- Eric Logan with assistance from other unnamed Harpo staffers. Gehron can be reached HERE, while you can reach out to Cantillo HERE.

Talk Media News Notes: Another of the industry's worst kept secrets is confirmed as WABC/New York host Curtis Sliwa is officially given a national rollout by ABC Radio Networks. Sliwa will host a nightly three-hour show (10pm-1am ET) that is already good-to-go on WTKK/Boston, KABC/Los Angeles and WMAL/Washington ... CRN Digital Talk Radio and Salem Radio Network have extended their programming partnership that allows CRN to syndicate Salem's Talk radio roster via cable and satellite TV. SRN VP News/Talk Programming Tom Tradup calls the agreement a, "win/win that expands SRN's reach in this digital era."
